Publications / Health & Safety Lothian and Borders Joint Branch Boards has embarked on a training programme with the Scottish Police Federation in order that representatives can be trained to carry out safety Inspections and investigate accidents in the work place. Safety Inspections are carried out at buildings owned by the Police authority to ensure that Health and Safety legislation is being complied with and to highlight to management potential or existing risks which require to be attended to. It is the duty of all employees to being to the attention of their respective supervisors any matter which they consider to be a risk to anyone's Health and Safety at Work. Whilst care is taken to ensure that the risk of injury is minimised the reality is that injuries do occur at work. It is imperative that in all cases this is reported on Force Form PH7 in order that a record of the incident is kept, action can be taken to prevent a re-occurrence and the appropriate advice can be given to officers injured. Near miss incidents are reported in the same way as above and can cover any incident of situation where officers feel that there was a danger to themselves or others. For example a failure in a vital piece of equipment or unsafe staffing levels. Any one wishing further information should contact their divisional representative in the first instance or the Federation office at Portobello.
