Changes Regarding Travel Insurance For Visitors to Cuba

The Cuban authorities yesterday announced that all visitors to Cuba from 1 May 2010 onwards are required to possess a travel insurance policy, covering medical expenses, issued by a Cuban or foreign insurance company recognized in Cuba.  The Cuban authorities have also stated that from this date, at all points of entry into the country, the sale of policies will be ensured by Cuban insurance companies.

The process for insurance companies to be approved by the Cuban authorities is not yet clear and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) is actively pursuing this with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Our insurer is also in contact with the Cuban Insurance Regulator.

We hope that this may be a "storm in a teacup", however it is important that you are aware of the ongoing situation
